Welcome to the Brewminaries! Consider this your reference for general club info and getting started with us!
Club Overview and meetings
Brewminaries meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 7pm at Strong Rope Brewery (574 President St, Brooklyn NY). On rare occasions due to holiday timing, they may be rescheduled, so double check the calendar here or on Slack to be sure! The agenda will be sent out a day or two before the meetings.
You can familiarize yourself with our club bylaws and code of conduct below.
What to expect at meetings
Meetings fall into three categories: speaker, experiment, or showcase. Speaker meetings involve a guest speaker from the brewing industry, or other experts relevant to brewing. Experiment meetings include tasting a panel of beers meant to test one particular aspect of brewing. Past experiments have included overpitch/underpitch, hop addition time comparison, yeast reusing, oxygenation, pellet vs whole leaf hops, and more. Showcase meetings involve 8-10 members brewing a set of beers with a common theme. Past showcases have included beers brewed with cereal, historical recipes, a “chopped” style showcase with basket ingredients, and our annual collaboration showcase. You can see which meetings are which on our calendar!
Bring some homebrew to share if you’d like!
Strong Rope is kind enough to host our meetings every month, so please remember to treat the space and staff with respect and clean up after yourselves.
At your first meeting, stop by the ‘swag shop’ and pick up your Brewmies tshirt, pint glass, sticker and button. Each year you renew, you’ll get a new color of tshirt and button! If your first meeting is not at Strong Rope, just shoot us an email at email@example.com to let us know you’re coming and we’ll try to bring your merch along.
Every meeting, we ask people to sign in on our electronic attendance sheet. This is so your attendance can count towards your Brewmie Points! You can also earn points by bringing homebrew, participating in showcases and collaborations, and brewing for our events! Whoever has the most points at the end of the year wins the coveted title “Brewmie of the Year.”
On a day-to-day basis we communicate mainly via Slack. It’s a great tool to have when it’s late and you’re having some sort of kegging crisis and need some people to ask advice, or you want to grab a beer and need someone to join you.
You’ll get an invitation within a day or two of joining the club- introduce yourself in General, make your profile picture a pic of you so we can recognize you out in the wild, and peruse the other channels so you can subscribe to whatever interests you!
If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to email the officers at Brewminaries@gmail.com, or reach out to one of us on Slack!
